New funding for railway history at Foundry Wood

ARC supports people to access and engage with the outdoors for their mental and physical health and wellbeing.

We are hugely pleased to have received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to explore and document the history of the Foundry Wood site and renovate an old railway wagon that we  recently brought into the woodland.

The site of Foundry Wood was once used for railway sidings and, of course, over the railway line there were various foundries over the years. We plan to research the history of these two sites to create informative signs in the woodland. We will also be renovating the railway carriage into a weather proof meeting and workshop space.

If you are interested in getting involved in history research including gathering oral histories from people who worked on either site, please get in touch by emailing kath@arccic.co.uk. If you have stories of either site to share, please also get in touch!
